Background
The young man now known as Kyphis awoke one day in the middle of a field, with no memory of who he was or how he had come to be here. He was not without provisions, however, and was in position of a single book, from whose cover he took his name, for on it was the single word, Kyphis. With him he also had several days food, a compass, and several wooden straws.
He wandered for hours, until he saw a house made of parchments, and having no memory of manners or customs, allowed his curiosity to lead him straight to its door. When he arrived he found himself amazed at all the beautiful stories and songs recorded there, that he did not even realize that he was no longer alone.
Eventualy, He realized he was being observed and, startled, he ran down the road with the parchements he had been reading... straight into the notice of a Greater Shade, who imprisoned him in a box.
When the young man awoke, He was in a great fair, with much laughter and singing, and everything a man could want. Yet something seemed wrong, and Kyphis couldn’t quite place it, until he realized that he was still holding the parchements from the house.
When he realized this, he also realized that the music in the fair had a strange power, and the sense that he needed to flee grew stronger and stronger, until he ran like a startled deer...
By the time he came to his senses, he was near a great forest, but he could see no way in through the thick woods. Instead, Kyphis sought out the paper cabin, to return the stolen scrolls, feeling a strong sense that what he had done in taking them was very wrong.
It took him many days, but eventually he found the cabin again, and when he explained himself to its inhabitants, he was surprised and delighted to learn that the house was magical, and he could take as many documents as he liked. When the people there saw that the young man had a passion for reading, they travelled with him to the great MD Archives, where he studied for days.
In time, the urge to visit the lands he had read so much about grew so strong that the young man left the confines of the MD Archives, and set out to fulfill his passion for legends, satisfy his thirst for truth, and discover the power of music...
But always on his mind is his departing vow, made on the gates of the MD Archive, that one day he would return for good, having proved his worth as a bard, and worthy to take the vows that would dedicate his life to the Archives.
Until that day, he set out on his journey, as a Bard of the Path...
