Jaezon was the first and only son of a powerful mage named Gerlensa. Gerlensa was the king's personal mage and advisor, and had served the king faithfully for many years, defending him against the most powerful attackers, even foiling an attempt on his own life by one of the most feared assassins of the land, who was never seen again. Gerlensa had a very beautiful wife who also had modest magical powers, nowhere near the level of her husband's, but enough that they assumed any children they had would also possess such a gift. When the news of her pregnancy was announced there was much excitement in the palace and in the talk of the magic-user's community of the child's potential.

The birth was not a pleasant affair, a lengthy struggle lasting well into the night saw the midwives fearing for their lady's health, as well as for that of the child. Early the next morning the newborn was brought into his father's chamber by the somber looking midwives, who handed Gerlensa his child and whispered softly, "she named him Jaezon." He looked hopefully at them, not trusting his voice to be able to ask the question... The midwives sadly shook their heads and turned away, leaving him with the only remaining member of his family. Although his powers were unmatched by any that had come across his path, he had never been able to heal a living thing despite all of his research. He lay, holding his child as he stared into the fire, wondering about Jaezon's future.

As Jaezon grew, he received the best education available, learning with the crown prince about the land and how to treat people justly, training in weapons with the king's personal guards, and grew in his knowledge and understanding very quickly. His wisdom and knack for quick learning gave his father hope, yet no spark of magical talent appeared on the frequent occasions when he asked his father to test him. The magical community began to lose interest as Jaezon passed his 12th summer with not even the slightest hint of ability. Gerlensa loved him just as dearly, but knew that Jae's life was going to be one filled with disappointment. For although Jaezon could defend himself with a blade against most foes by now, and his quick wit could easily diffuse arguments or shame those who tried to belittle him, he knew he was living in the shadow of his father, and the expectation of the entire magical community.

One day Jaezon was sitting in his father's armchair just staring into the fire, thinking on his life and about his mother. Gerlensa's stories of her kindness and beauty were all that he had of her, save some of her personal effects his father had kept to remind them of her. As he sat there staring into the flames, he began feeling angry and bitter about the way fate had treated him. Not wanting to wallow in self-pity he stared at the flames, trying to lose himself in their flicker and focus on something other than his pain. He was disturbed from his focus by the smell of smoke, and looking around noticed the wooden armrest he had been gripping so tightly had blackened and had begun to smolder!

His bitterness completely forgotten in his excitement, Jaezon eventually managed to calm himself enough to try and repeat the effect. Once he had settled down he began to concentrate once more on the fire. His excitement was a constant distraction, breaking his focus every few seconds, then every few minutes, until eventually his focus was set. Concentrating on the flames he felt the wood of the armchair begin to grow warm and smelt the smoke that bespoke his success. Ecstatic at his success at finally being able to manipulate something magically, Jaezon decided that he wouldn't say anything to his father, but rather that he would simply show him.

He waited until his father returned to their wing of the palace, and called him into the room. "father, I have something I want to show you," Jaezon said when Gerlensa had arrived. His father raised an eyebrow, but said nothing. Jaezon held a piece of unburned wood from beside the fireplace and began to concentrate. A minute or two passed and the wood began to heat up and smolder, he kept on concentrating and it burst into flames, strangely enough not burning Jaezon's hands as he threw it into the fire.

I have found no reason to hate yet. Annoyances come, I forgive and get over it. Holding a grudge is pointless.
(Bad spelling and l33t speak irritate me though, just type the word, it only takes an extra half a second)

Watch & Learn, don't be afraid to ask questions, even if you don't get a straight answer usually you can get a pointer in the right direction.
