All shard abilities have been assigned to a species.
If you had them already on a crit, the ability is still available on that crit (as a rarity), but otherwise, you can only assign abilities to a crit that is for that species from now on. Many species do not have any ability yet, and some of the previously available abilities have been assigned to rare or super rare species. Over time, now that the shard editor is ready and complex enough, more and more themed shards will be made available, and even event shards will be released for limited time period, for collectors.
