The Caretakers' tools

A check of one line of News 6755 (7 November 2026): the guild "was not meant to have its tools lent to outsiders either, as it did". When did the tools leave the guild, who held them, were they used, and was there roleplay behind it? From the game's item records and the public chat and forum. Times are server time.

The tools

Caretaker's Spade (item 9427). Made by Mur for phantasm, the guild's founder, in 2010. A kill tool: it kills a player at the cost of a gold coin. Passed from leader to leader.
The Caretaker's Seal (item 315491). Ledah's own item, forged for him in July 2026, makes Imprinted Darks. He gave it to Aelis at the handover on 27 September 2026 as a gift "from myself", not as an old guild tool. Taken back at the disbanding with the Spade, and returned to Aelis on 8 November as Ledah's gift. It was never lent.
Not a guild tool: Flamel's elixir, a single-use revive, was Aelis's own item from 2013 until he traded it to Ledah on 17 September 2026. It is not counted here.

The Seal never left Aelis from the handover to the disbanding. Since the disbanding (7 November) the Spade is with Muratus del Mur; the Seal was returned to Aelis on 8 November.

What happened on 31 October

Ledah was not a Caretaker at that time. He left the guild at the end of July (his last line in the guild's chat is on 29 July), about thirteen weeks before, and on 28 October he had joined another alliance, the Seal of Six.

30 October, 21:41. Ledah killed Blackshade Rider at the Storm Docks. His own kill item broke on that first use.
31 October, early hours. Death Ray cast depletion curses and a storm.
31 October, afternoon. Ledah in public: "Someone wants to die...". At 17:16 Death Ray banished him to Loreroot. Ledah to redneck: "It seems DR had to get involved... So... you must die", and he banished redneck to Golemus at 17:20, 18:09 and 19:09. Else pulled Ledah twice with movebind (17:26, 19:05). At 18:53: "I would appreciate it if everyone could play fair. DR started this, but you can end it redneck".
18:58. Ledah took the Caretaker's Spade, the guild's kill tool, from Aelis, by the transfer code that only its holder could give him: "Ah, old reliable... Come, it is only for a short time we are together... But time to quench our thirsts..." How the code reached him is not in the public record.
1 November. Else spotted it and asked in public on the forum whether the Spade was not a tool of the Caretakers (topic 29260). Chewett answered: "It's their tool, they can choose what they do with it." Ledah: "I am not sure what I am meant to be seeing in this screenshot."
2 November, 12:43. The Spade went back to Aelis. No kill was made with it in those 42 hours.

In short: in a quarrel with Death Ray and redneck, a player who was no longer a Caretaker got the guild's kill tool from its leader. No roleplay of the guild or of the dead is behind it.

Had Ledah used the Spade before it was spotted and returned, the guild's own tool would have killed a player in a private quarrel, and things would have been much worse for Aelis.

What the record shows

The News line is accurate. It is not worse than it looks, and not better.

While Aelis led the guild, its kill tool was outside it three times: with Ledah for three weeks before the handover, with Chewett for an hour and a half, and lent by Aelis himself to Ledah for 42 hours.
Only the last was Aelis's own act. He gave the guild's kill tool to a former member, by then in another alliance, who was in an open quarrel and spoke of thirst as he took it.
The Spade was not used in any of the three periods outside the guild. Nobody was killed with it after Aelis received it.
No roleplay of the guild or of the dead is in the public record behind any of the three moves.
