Character

Combat stats tap a row for its sources

  • 295.08 initial = 295.08

The plain force your creatures strike with when you send them into a ritual.

Treasure from won fights, where it is the cheapest of the nine to raise. Worn weapons lend it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

Damage is your attack less the target's defence, and most abilities start their sum from it. Your total is shared out across the creatures in your ritual, so the same attack goes further in a ritual of two than in a ritual of six.

  • 134.62 initial + 300 territory + 20 alliance = 454.62

How much of a blow your creatures shrug off before it touches their vitality.

Treasure from won fights, at three and a half times the cost of attack. Worn armour lends it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

It is subtracted from nearly every incoming blow, so a defence above the enemy's attack leaves them doing the minimum of one damage. Like the rest, your total is shared out across the creatures in your ritual.

  • 89.81 initial = 89.81

The strength behind everything your creatures do that is not a plain blow.

Treasure from won fights, the second cheapest of the nine to raise. Worn gear lends it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

Healing, protecting, stealing life, draining principles and poisoning all measure themselves against power and ignore attack entirely. Stealing life is capped at 20 percent of a creature, and an aimed hit at 25.

  • 19.79 initial = 19.79

How early your creatures move when a round opens.

Treasure from won fights, at five times the cost of attack. Worn gear lends it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

The whole field acts in order of initiative, highest first, so it decides whether you land a killing blow before the other side answers or after.

  • 93.08 initial + 1 alliance = 94.08

How readily the realm's heat answers to you, in a fight and on the road.

Treasure from won fights, and one of the dearer of the nine. Worn gear lends it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

It is added to the heat you get for a fight you start, and a quarter of it is added to the heat of every step on your own land, or on any land while you belong to none.

  • 46.98 initial = 46.98

The realm's willingness to tilt a moment your way, or against you.

Treasure from won fights, but only on about one win in eight, so it grows in jumps rather than steadily. Clickables in the lands hand it out, and worn gear lends it.

On roughly one scene in three, luck finds you Winertia; luck below zero loses it instead. In a fight, luck on either side can double an effect or cancel it outright.

  • 99.60 initial + 50 territory = 149.60

How readily your vitality comes back to you.

Treasure from won fights, and by far the dearest of the nine to raise. Worn gear lends it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

It swells the vitality your house pays you on every refresh, by up to half again, with half of that reached at 2,000. After a fight, every creature you sent is brought back up to at least its regeneration as a percentage of its maximum vitality. Your regeneration is shared out among them like the other stats.

  • 81.02 initial = 81.02

Your nose for a price, and how hard you are to overcharge.

Treasure from won fights, at one of the higher costs of the nine. Worn gear lends it.

It takes up to 25 percent off a dwelling, a weapon and your house rent. The discount climbs fast at first and then flattens, reaching half its maximum at 750 and never quite the whole 25. It is the one of the nine the fight engine never reads.

  • 170.32 initial + 150 territory + 20 alliance = 340.32

How well you hold together while crossing land that is not yours.

Treasure from won fights, at one of the higher costs of the nine. Worn helms and shields lend it.

Stepping into another house's territory costs you vitality, and your energetic immunity cancels that percentage of the loss. At 100 the crossing costs nothing at all.

Skills that only grow

  • 25.59 initial = 25.59

The weight of your own will, built by going where the realm pushes back.

Every scene you enter that costs action points. Going in above the viscosity minimum pays more than going in below it. The secured day streak pays as well.

Your share of a forge wish. There are five bands, from a tenth to a half.

  • 3 initial = 3.00

Your grasp of the map, and of the shortest way across it.

Touching any of the 25 pillars. Each pillar pays a given traveller once, and never again.

The action points every move costs you. It comes off the cost, down to a floor of one.

  • 80 initial = 80.00

How far your character can still be reshaped. It starts at 80 for everyone and is only ever spent.

Nothing raises it yet. Every card you take by converting permanent stats lowers it by one.

The price of your next card. At 80 a card costs 10 points; each point of plasticity you lose makes the next card dearer (59, then 69, then 81 ...), and each point above 80 makes it cheaper, down to a floor of one.

Imagination is Key Comments on self

Intangible
That Without Form
Embodiment of Imagination

I am whatever I wish to be. I am whatever you perceive me to be. I can change from one moment to the next without warning and sometimes without any apparent reason. I can be whatever I wish, from warrior or healer to entertainer or diplomat to teacher or student – anything that I can conceive of. I change as the mood strikes me or as the situation demands.
Through my adventures in these lands and through my interactions with others, I have discovered that I enjoy changing into creatures of various kinds. But, I have taken a liking to a certain grouping of animals. Can you figure out the connection? Some of my favorites from this list include becoming various forms of dragons, snakes, and tigers. I do have moments where I am more immaterial, such as when I become a nimbus, dancing shadows, or a rainbow. But, I find it is easier for other material beings to relate to me (and want to hug me) when I become physical… and they seem to enjoy it when I’m “cute.”
I am normally very generous and I love to have fun. But, I also believe a little bit of chaos is needed at times and I am all too happy to oblige.
I want to take a moment to make it very clear that I do not do “party tricks” – do not ask me to change into something solely for your amusement. Of course, if you want to be on the receiving end of one of my more aggressive manifestations then by all means do it – make me angry.

While I may shift from corporeal to immaterial within the blink of an eye or beat of a heart, the one thing about me that is constant is that I perceive myself to be the embodiment of Imagination. Imagination is what brought this world and each being in it into existence. Imagination is what makes the world go ‘round. Imagination is what makes everything possible and gives rise to all things – that which is beautiful and hideous, wonderful and frightening.

I am the child of Thought and Desire, sibling to Hope and Wish. I am related to Light, Darkness, and Time. I am friends with Kindness, Wrath, Subtlety, and Vengeance. I am here to shake things up, keep everyone on their toes, to think for themselves and not take things for granted, to cause chaos when it is needed and to bring about order when too much has taken place. I want to challenge others, both physically and mentally – preconceptions, complacency, boundaries, comfort zones, stereotypes – I want to challenge it all.

Disobedience

The Silent Ones are the teachers and knowledge keepers of my kind and they are some of the most impressive Intangibles which exist, teaching and instructing us in many ways.  One of the lessons they teach us is the reason on which we base one of our few laws.  This law states "No Intangible may have a relationship with a monoform."  The wording for this law is simple, yes, but you must remember that my kind has little use for words or writing.  We understand what it is and what it means and that is all that is required.

The Silent Ones teach us that nearly all beings who can change their shape can somehow trace their lineage to an Intangible.  I will confess some hesitancy in believing this, but that is the commonly accepted view among my kind.  The Silent Ones teach that long ago, when Intangibles were first beginning to interact in various realms with those whose forms were fixed, there were Intangibles who found themselves drawn to beings with a single body, those who we now call "monoforms."  Intangibles would live with these monoforms, sometimes for the entire lifespan of the being, which could stretch into centuries.  These pairings seemed harmless and were of great interest to both my kind as well as the various beings with whom we interacted.  We were happy and free; the other beings were happy and free.

Sadly, it is known that ignorance is bliss and it seems that all Intangibles were blissful, and therefore completely ignorant of what was coming.  Without going into great detail, there came a time when beings came into existence who were both of Intangible and monoform heritage.  We are uncertain how these beings were created, whether they were through natural means or if there was another influence of sorts.  Whatever the cause, these beings now existed and there could be no changing that fact.
I am happy to say that some of these beings could handle the stress of being of both energy and physical substance.  However, there were a great many who could not handle the stress.  These... creatures lashed out, causing a great deal of chaos, death, and destruction to many worlds and many realms.  The damage they cause affected many, including my kind.
The worst of these aberrations were found by the strongest and wisest of the Intangibles and were then destroyed or imprisoned in such a way that they could never affect another being or place again.  This left us with the task of cleaning up and repairing the damage we could.

After all this a council was convened.  The first, and most reactionary, thought was to cut off all contact with monoforms and to stay within our own realm.  It quickly became clear, though, that we had already crossed a line and could not go back.  My kind revels in curiosity and we craved to know more about the various realms and worlds we had visited.  And, of course, we wished to visit even more places.
It was then that one Intangible proposed something very simple: We prevent this from happening again by preventing the circumstances which led to it.  All Intangibles vowed to never allow this to happen again.  The law was established then, prohibiting relationships with monoforms.  It is a law which has kept our kind from repeating a horrible mistake.

What does this have to do with me, you might ask?  Well... I have met a monoform who is exquisite.  His name is Kouros.

I will keep the details of our courtship to us, but I will let others know that he can be very convincing when he wishes to be.  And this is what has led me to my current state and dilemma.

I have fallen for a monoform... and in doing so, I have been punished.
I cannot claim ignorance of the consequences... but... I cannot claim I can live with them.  The Gatherers have passed upon me their judgment, and for me, it is a most terrible one.
I am barred from changing shape... and so I am as you see me now, a faun of short stature.  I am barred from touching another.  I can touch inanimate objects as well as non-sentient beings, such as plants.  However, I cannot physically touch another living being.  And all attempts to bypass this punishment have led to some very painful experiences for me.

I am no longer what I was...  I do not know what I am.
My friends tell me that everything will be okay, that I will regain what I have lost... but I wonder what makes them think that.  I have others who ask me if the punishment is over.  This confuses me.  Aren't punishments supposed to be permanent; is it not a way of deterring similar behavior in the future?

I have one last hope, which is fading quickly...
I have petitioned the Gatherers on Kouros' behalf.  He wishes to present a case to them for why we should be allowed to continue on as an exception to the rule.  I am wary of this, but I want to give him his chance.
Kouros has awakened, but now the Gathers are the ones who are silent...  This is frustrating, to say the least.

I fear I am losing more of myself every day...  I wander around, unable to touch another, unable to change shape...  I feel lost and confused and scared...

What will happen to me?

Quest Info

MD’s 8th Birthday Party

Photo Scavenger Hunt:

Guidelines:

The guidelines for this quest are pretty simple: take pictures of objects in sets of 8 or take pictures of birthday paraphernalia (hats, cakes, balloons) and then load those images to a photo-hosting site. The photo collections will be scored, the goal being to achieve the highest score.

  • The letters “MD” and your character’s name MUST be in ALL photos you submit to ensure that you didn’t just find something online.
  • There can only be 8 of the specified items in each of the photos you submit (if there are 8 spoons and one knife, you’re fine; if there are 9 spoons, you aren’t). If there is more than that, it will not count towards your score (but it won’t count against it, either). Partial objects will be determined on a case by case basis—though a good rule of thumb is less than 50% of on extraneous object will be fine.
  • It is up to YOU to find a photo-hosting site (there are plenty) where you will upload your photos. Do not use the forum: I won’t check it, I won’t look it at, and anyone who uses the forum for this contest will be disqualified and possibly barred from any other contest or event I might run in the future (I’m serious about you not using the forum).
  • It is in your best interest to indicate what the photo’s subject is supposed to be it’s not obvious. A picture of 8 lit sparklers should be pretty apparent, but if you take a picture of two dogs but don’t indicate the (generally 8) paws, then you won’t score anything (but it won’t be held against you).
  • You can (and, indeed, are encouraged to) work with others in groups of up to 4 people. At least three pictures from each participant must be included in the final photo album. Should this requirement not be met, there will be no score for he group. However, as I’m not in charge of rewards, it’s up to the group members on how to divide awards if they are earned.

As this notice is going up on (or around) day 106 0:00, the contest will begin on day 107, 0:00 and continue for approximately 5 days. You must send me a PM the URL (web address) of your photo album (or whatever the site calls it) by 23:59:59 on day 112. Any messages or URLs submitted after that will simply be deleted.

Scoring:

  • Groupings of objects commonly found in the home will be worth 1 point. Objects that are too similar will only be counted once, such as using 8 forks for one picture and 8 spoons for another. However, +1 point will be given to each photo where the objects are the exact same item, such as 8 knives from a set.
  • Groupings of objects found outside the home will score at least 2 points per picture, up to 10 (or more) for extremely rare objects (like 8 battleships or something similar). Objects that are too similar—such as 8 cars and 8 vans—will only be counted once. Again, +1 to +5 points (bonus increasing by rarity) will be added to a photo’s score if the objects are the exact same thing.
  • Groupings of birthday-related or themed items will score 5 points (regardless of how many items are in the photo) as there are only so many things associated with birthdays. You will receive +2 points if there are multiple objects in the photo and they are all the same. The score for a picture will be TRIPLED if you can get 8 (and only 8) of the same birthday items in the photo.

Special Challenge: Taking a photo of 8 children celebrating their 8th birthdays with 8 cakes all saying “Happy 8th Birthday” (or something similar) will be worth a special prize (because, really, how likely is that?).

Scores will be posted to this document after they have been calculated. I will only check each submission ONCE, so be sure you or your group has everything uploaded that you want considered.

Lastly, creativity is encouraged—just don’t get too clever or pedantic.

If you have any questions or need clarification, please let me know!

Little bits and pieces that don't fit elsewhere. Personal hate list

I have met a most wonderful, and curious, individual: his name is Cryxus. Cryxus wants to become a pirate and to sail the seas of MagicDuel. Sadly, while he has his own ship, the Crimson Blade, he does not have access to water. But that does not seem to prevent him from being very pirate-like and even going around building a crew.
I am happy to say that I have been invited to join his rather motley band. And while I do not have a specific assignment as many of the others do, Cryxus has decided to leave me to my own devices to aid the crew and ship in any way I can. I look forward to romping about with him and his crew.
I think it will be fun and exciting!

Cryxus' ship has actually reached completetion and sits near the land of Golemus Golemicarum.  I was there for most of the christening, but I did miss a little of it (ah, an Archivist's work is never done.)  He now has an official title as do most of his crew.  It is wonderful to see this has happened for him.
I look forward to the adventures we are going to have aboard with the crew, discovering new and exotic lands.

However, I am beginning to wonder about my place within his crew...  But... it's his crew and his ship, so who I am to question his choices?  I would still like to be a part of it, but it seems less likely now.  Maybe something will change in the future.

Gifts

The following is a poem I received from Kouros, the Faun

Sweet Innocence flowing and flying
Quicksilver and starshine
Eyes always seeing mind always weaving
Stories from people strange and wise
Imagination's child full of laughter
Sadness and dreams

Rest your heavy spirit
You who change
But always remain yourself
Fill the Archives with your thoughts
Your dreams and wisdom
Your heart

~ Kouros ~

And here is another poem that has been gifted to me, which is also from Kouros:

So the boy fell into a deep sleep.
Among the grey ashes in the flames shining
...First one, then two ...
Surface an infinity of faces, all yours

A thousand dreams trickle back to the earth
On the night when the silver eyes were trembling
the shining you was born
Across millions of years,
My prayers have already returned back to the earth

I will still continue to pray
Please bestow upon this child your love
Upon our joined hands, leave a gentle kiss

~ Kouros ~

A poem from Rumi:

In a hall of wisdom of the ages
I open my fool's mouth
You sweep me off my feet
Now I am on the floor
Go get a dustpan

A poem from Passant:

Elle s'appelle Innocence
Et c'est un puits de patience
Sans lassitude elle vous parle
Ses mots sont comme une arme
Une arme innocente
Qui flatte le Passant

There is a human custom of giving out gifts on certain days of the year.  One such incidence occured recently.  Pamplemousse gifted me with a magical book with never-ending pages, which has become very useful in my position within the Archivists.  It is bound in leather and has various runes and sigils on it.  I like it very much and certainly appreciated it.
After receiving this gift, I was given a quill which never requires an inkwell, as it never runs out of ink.  This was given to me by a guy named Anna... which isn't his real name, but I don't recall what his real name is.  I just remember that was what I called him and he didn't seem to object, for whatever it's worth.
Lastly, for this season of gifting from friends, I was given a box of oridinary tissue paper from Cryxus.  Of course, there is a story behind that, but I do not want to share it here.  However, if you are curious you are more than welcome to ask me about it and I will share some of it.  With that tissue paper, I made a little tissue/fishnet thing because Cryxus was talking about a "netter" - and I thought that might be what it was.  I then made some fissues with it.  All this was hanging up in the Sozzled Salamander behind the bar, but I don't know what happened to it after Windy took over.  Considering I don't recognize the place any longer, I can only guess that she removed it... and possibly trashed it.  How sad!

I have been gifted with a very unique set of eight bracelets. They were crafted by Kragel and they can alter their nature, as I alter mine, when I am changing into whatever I wish.
A truly wondrous gift, indeed!

Shadowseeker gave me a finely crafted glass rose as a sort of apology for him being... well, not exactly rude... but...  Anyway, it is beautiful.  And I thank him for it!

Pamplemousse has recently given me a leather satchel.  In it, I have placed my magical tome, the never-dry quill, and some of the tissue paper.  Now I can take notes as I need.

I have received a coin crafted by Thomas the Titan.  Both sides of the coin depict a rose, however, on one side, the rose is intricately engraved and takes up most of the space on that side.  On the other side, the rose is not as intricate or large.  Also, the top edge displays “Innocence”, carved out in an elegant hand.  The bottom edge of this side has more writing in a language, which, while beautiful, I cannot read.

Csyth Krytill has given me a rather peculiar, but interesting handkerchief.  The handkerchief, when unfolded, displays the image of a waving and grinning, snow white ghoul. The rest of cloth is pitch black, while gold trim shimmers and sparkles along the edge of the item. The fabric of the cloth is a fine silk, which is supposed to soften the ordeal of sneezing, as is its recommended use, but considering I don't sneeze, I like it because it's pretty!

Angurvadal has given me a piece torn cloth from the rags that he wears.  He told me that it is a part of him, which grossed me out at first, but then he said that one's outter appearance affects how others will react to them.  I understand this (moreso than the "piece of me" thing) and so I accepted it and have placed it with the other belongings of mine that I cherish.
