Character

Combat stats tap a row for its sources

  • 51.92 initial = 51.92

The plain force your creatures strike with when you send them into a ritual.

Treasure from won fights, where it is the cheapest of the nine to raise. Worn weapons lend it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

Damage is your attack less the target's defence, and most abilities start their sum from it. Your total is shared out across the creatures in your ritual, so the same attack goes further in a ritual of two than in a ritual of six.

  • 29.82 initial = 29.82

How much of a blow your creatures shrug off before it touches their vitality.

Treasure from won fights, at three and a half times the cost of attack. Worn armour lends it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

It is subtracted from nearly every incoming blow, so a defence above the enemy's attack leaves them doing the minimum of one damage. Like the rest, your total is shared out across the creatures in your ritual.

  • 17.03 initial = 17.03

The strength behind everything your creatures do that is not a plain blow.

Treasure from won fights, the second cheapest of the nine to raise. Worn gear lends it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

Healing, protecting, stealing life and poisoning all measure themselves against power and ignore attack entirely. Stealing life is capped at 20 percent of a creature, and an aimed hit at 25.

  • 18.61 initial = 18.61

How early your creatures move when a round opens.

Treasure from won fights, at five times the cost of attack. Worn gear lends it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

The whole field acts in order of initiative, highest first, so it decides whether you land a killing blow before the other side answers or after.

  • 30.99 initial = 30.99

How readily the realm's heat answers to you, in a fight and on the road.

Treasure from won fights, and one of the dearer of the nine. Worn gear lends it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

It is added to the heat you get for a fight you start, and a quarter of it is added to the heat of every step on your own land, or on any land while you belong to none.

  • 13 initial = 13.00

The realm's willingness to tilt a moment your way, or against you.

Treasure from won fights, but only on about one win in eight, so it grows in jumps rather than steadily. Clickables in the lands hand it out, and worn gear lends it.

On roughly one scene in three, luck finds you Winertia; luck below zero loses it instead. In a fight, luck on either side can double an effect or cancel it outright.

  • 28.13 initial = 28.13

How readily your vitality comes back to you.

Treasure from won fights, and by far the dearest of the nine to raise. Worn gear lends it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

It swells the vitality your house pays you on every refresh, by up to half again, with half of that reached at 2,000. After a fight, every creature you sent is brought back up to at least its regeneration as a percentage of its maximum vitality. Your regeneration is shared out among them like the other stats.

  • 22.79 initial = 22.79

Your nose for a price, and how hard you are to overcharge.

Treasure from won fights, at one of the higher costs of the nine. Worn gear lends it.

It takes up to 25 percent off a dwelling, a weapon and your house rent. The discount climbs fast at first and then flattens, reaching half its maximum at 750 and never quite the whole 25. It is the one of the nine the fight engine never reads.

  • 34.99 initial = 34.99

How well you hold together while crossing land that is not yours.

Treasure from won fights, at one of the higher costs of the nine. Worn helms and shields lend it.

Stepping into another house's territory costs you vitality, and your energetic immunity cancels that percentage of the loss. At 100 the crossing costs nothing at all.

Skills that only grow

  • 1.49 initial = 1.49

The weight of your own will, built by going where the realm pushes back.

Every scene you enter that costs action points. Going in above the viscosity minimum pays more than going in below it. The secured day streak pays as well.

Your share of a forge wish. There are five bands, from a tenth to a half.

  • 1 initial = 1.00

Your grasp of the map, and of the shortest way across it.

Touching any of the 25 pillars. Each pillar pays a given traveller once, and never again.

The action points every move costs you. It comes off the cost, down to a floor of one.

  • 80 initial = 80.00

How far your character can still be reshaped. It starts at 80 for everyone and is only ever spent.

Nothing raises it yet. Every card you take by converting permanent stats lowers it by one.

The price of your next card. At 80 a card costs 10 points; each point of plasticity you lose makes the next card dearer (59, then 69, then 81 ...), and each point above 80 makes it cheaper, down to a floor of one.

Comments on self

*You look around and take in the scene... Out of the corner of your eye you spy a figure dressed in what seems to be a white shirt, light tan pants, and simple brown long coat. His head is covered with shoulder-length white hair that covers part of his face when he's not careful. He has packs and pouches of various sizes placed on a black belt or slung over his shoulder. He seems to be categorizing his surrounding environs.
Curious about this person, you approach him and notice he is studying something intently. He seems to be writing notes of what he's studying into a thick, blue and white leather-bound tome. Seemingly unaware of your approach, he continues to study his specimen. You watch for a few more moments, not wanting to disturb him.

While observing, you notice that his face and hands are pale and light; his eyebrows are the same white on the light skin of his youthful face. Something about him seems to suggest a youthful age, but his movements at times are slow and purposeful. You think you hear him mutter something to himself, but you are not sure. Just as you are about to say something, he chuckles, gently shuts his book, and turns in your direction.*

Well, hello there. I suppose you would like to know who I am, maybe hear my story? I would be delighted to share with you such things! I am Virtuous Pride...
*He pauses for a moment to slide the small wire-framed glasses up his nose before continuing...*

I specialize in mixing, brewing, concocting, and creating potions. I came by my trade long ago and in a land far away from here. I have become learned and well-versed in the ways of many lands. I know of the creatures that inhabit them, of the plants that grow within, and of the elements of nature itself -- be it light, air, earth, darkness, rain or...something else.

I can, and have, created a myriad of potions. I have turned the weak into the powerful. I have turned the feeble minded into great thinkers and philosophers. I have caused dreadfully ill men to rise from their beds within weeks...days...even minutes...
I can brew batches of joy and adulation, curiosity and wonder. Do you wish for wealth? Want the ability to fly amongst the clouds and stars? Ever desired to be suave and debonair? In which ways would you want to enhance your mind and body? Is there a creature... or soul you would like to free?

*He pulls down his glasses to eye you fully before sliding them back up his nose once more and continuing on.*
I must say I am uncertain of how I ended up here, in this new land. All I can recall is that I was exploring a cave while searching for ingredients for a mixture I wanted to create. I ventured further into the cave than I ever had before as the search was less productive than I wished. Because I was so intent on finding ingredients, I was not paying attention to the path I was taking. I chuckled at my misfortune when I realized I was lost. After walking for what seemed like days I emerged from the cave into bright light… When my eyes had adjusted to the beauty of the brightness, I saw before me a cabin. And, when I went to look for the cave, it had disappeared. Thinking that someone dwelled within the cabin and could answer my questions, I entered.
I have been here ever since.

*He tucks his book under his arm and eyes you further.*
For now, I am searching these new lands for ingredients, be they common, rare, or unique. I currently have access to No Man's Land, Marind Bell, and the Archives. I am also now able to explore Loreroot. The guards were tough, but I have proven myself worthy to them. I look forward to discovering new plant and creature specimens to categorize, collect, experiment with, and eventually, establish a mutually beneficial relationship. Loreroot is a veritable treasure trove of supplies and ingredients! *He spaces out for a minute before seeming to pull himself back to you. He clears his throat before continuing.*
I would also like to check out Necrovion, as that place may have some interesting things lying about. But, out of all the lands, it is Golemus Golemicarum that holds the most interest for me...I feel drawn to there...I stand outside its gates, transfixed for countless moments in lost thought. I see the shore calling out to me... I long to respond...

*He stares off into the distance for a moment and becomes silent. He removes his glasses a wipes a tear from his eye, and places them back upon his face. Before he has a chance to speak again, you gently put forth your uncertain request. His eyes widen and seemingly brighten before he speaks again.*
A love philter, you say? I would be delighted! Not necessarily a challenge by any stretch of one's imagination, but something I could truly put myself behind. Of course, I will need the ingredients and the coin.

*He smiles welcomingly and softly invites you to join him. His smile seems natural, and vaguely mysterious all the same... you're sure there's something more, but you cannot quite make it out. Perhaps... but, no... yet, it does spark your imagination a bit.*

What would you have me to make for you, oh weary traveler of these lands?

For the Arrogant and the Proud Personal hate list

I have little patience for those who are arrogant and lack compassion for others. I have little interest in those so proud they refuse to do anything for themselves, including gathering the ingredients I request of them. If they cannot tackle such a small task themselves, they are obviously too proud to deserve my skill...

The Arrogant and the Proud need not bother me... PERIOD.
