~~~The Created~~~
(Image may be subject to copyright. Read the note at the end of this page.).
The
history of my people starts at the moment of our creation. We were
created by powerful beings that never told us who they were and never
gave us a name. These beings did not appear to us in their physical
form, if they even had one, but as light, resembling humanoid form.
We simply called ourselves the created and they were the creators. To
this day, I do not know the reason of our making.
We
were created in the image of humans but with some differences. Our
ears are slightly pointed and our eyes have a different color under
certain lighting conditions. Also, our emotions are not as strong as
in humans. Do not misunderstand, we feel, just less... intense. And
also it seems that we do not age.
The
creators put us on a series of islands and started teaching us
everything we needed to know to survive on our own, from language, to
farming, construction to philosophy. We built cities and advanced
technology. And so our days passed in learning and discovering new
things under the ever watchful eyes of our creators. It seemed they
were pleased with us.
After
some time their visits became less frequent. Then they started
teaching us about war and combat. We did not understand why we would
need this knowledge.
Then
something like an army was formed. It had little to do with warfare
except for the exercises we did regularly. New vessels were invented
for the army; bigger ships to travel farther by sea and flying
airships to patrol from the sky.
At
this time I was chosen to be navigator on one of the many scout
airships. These airships are small flying units that serve many
purposes, not just scouting ahead of the main army. They have little
firepower, but they are quite fast and very maneuverable.
We
started patrolling around our islands and for the first time ventured
far beyond our homeland. Many interesting things and sights were
found far beyond our islands, but our creators never allowed us to
launch big scale expeditions, always keeping us close to home.
Soon
the time would come when we would have to show how well we have
trained for war.
Humans.
They came one day, demanding to take our lands from us. As we
refused, we evoked the wrath of the human king. And it came to war.
We
were prepared for it and so a long and bloody battle began. Many
years it lasted, and for all I know it still does. My story on that
world ends 14 years after we first crossed swords with the humans.
~~~Life before MD~~~
The early years of my existence are not of much importance. They were
mostly spent in learning and putting the learned to some use.
My life took a turn when I became navigator on a scout airship. Up until
the war, our main purpose was exploration. We charted many new lands
and explored many long forgotten ruins.
Then
came the war. The airship I was on had a good captain and the crew
worked well together as a team so we were chosen to participate in
many missions. These ranged from simple scouting, battles,
espionage, to rescue missions and so on. We were good at what we did.
Our
last mission should have been a simple one. Unfortunately, it never
goes as planed. We were ambushed and our ship crash landed on a small
island in the middle of nowhere. Only the pilot and myself survived
the crash. The pilot died from his wounds a few days later and I
recovered from my injuries for some time.
After
inspecting the little island I found that there was enough food and
water here to sustain me for the time being. I also discovered a cave
that lead to a huge complex of tunnels underneath the island, and by
my calculations these tunnels stretched far under the ocean.
The
airship was to demolished to repair and I was never that good with
machines to begin with so I salvaged from the remains whatever I
could.
For
days I observed the skies and the horizon for any signs of anyone,
but nothing passed, not humans, not my own, just the occasional bird
here and there. The tunnels were my next best thing then, perhaps
they would lead out onto some other island, or even the mainland.
Unfortunately
I found that most of the tunnels went in circles, but I also found a
chamber that contained some sort of temple. This temple became my
main occupation since its gate was closed and I wanted to explore the
inside.
So days passed and I discovered that the inside of this temple held some
sort of portal, my way out of here I thought. It became my obsession
to decipher all the symbols on the temple and activate the portal.
I
do not know how much time passed, but I managed to understand enough
to open the gates. Inside the temple was the portal. As I had
deciphered most of the script, activating it was not a big problem.
The
portal opened. It was like looking through a window, except the
window was in the middle of the room. On the other side I saw the
inside of what seemed to be a cabin. There was a large desk with a
big scroll on it. It was my way of the island so I did not consider
that this portal might lead me to some other world. I stepped through
it. As I stood inside the cabin, the portal behind me closed. Then it
hit me... that last symbol I was not sure about... "one way"... return to top |

Words without actions are nothing, but sometimes, actions without words are misinterpreted.
Observe and listen, you never know what you might find.
