Character

Combat stats tap a row for its sources

  • 1,065.82 initial = 1,065.82

The plain force your creatures strike with when you send them into a ritual.

Treasure from won fights, where it is the cheapest of the nine to raise. Worn weapons lend it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

Damage is your attack less the target's defence, and most abilities start their sum from it. Your total is shared out across the creatures in your ritual, so the same attack goes further in a ritual of two than in a ritual of six.

  • 592.14 initial = 592.14

How much of a blow your creatures shrug off before it touches their vitality.

Treasure from won fights, at three and a half times the cost of attack. Worn armour lends it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

It is subtracted from nearly every incoming blow, so a defence above the enemy's attack leaves them doing the minimum of one damage. Like the rest, your total is shared out across the creatures in your ritual.

  • 384.95 initial = 384.95

The strength behind everything your creatures do that is not a plain blow.

Treasure from won fights, the second cheapest of the nine to raise. Worn gear lends it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

Healing, protecting, stealing life and poisoning all measure themselves against power and ignore attack entirely. Stealing life is capped at 20 percent of a creature, and an aimed hit at 25.

  • 94.49 initial = 94.49

How early your creatures move when a round opens.

Treasure from won fights, at five times the cost of attack. Worn gear lends it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

The whole field acts in order of initiative, highest first, so it decides whether you land a killing blow before the other side answers or after.

  • 169.06 initial = 169.06

How readily the realm's heat answers to you, in a fight and on the road.

Treasure from won fights, and one of the dearer of the nine. Worn gear lends it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

It is added to the heat you get for a fight you start, and a quarter of it is added to the heat of every step on your own land, or on any land while you belong to none.

  • 115.78 initial = 115.78

The realm's willingness to tilt a moment your way, or against you.

Treasure from won fights, but only on about one win in eight, so it grows in jumps rather than steadily. Clickables in the lands hand it out, and worn gear lends it.

On roughly one scene in three, luck finds you Winertia; luck below zero loses it instead. In a fight, luck on either side can double an effect or cancel it outright.

  • 130.22 initial = 130.22

How readily your vitality comes back to you.

Treasure from won fights, and by far the dearest of the nine to raise. Worn gear lends it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

It swells the vitality your house pays you on every refresh, by up to half again, with half of that reached at 2,000. After a fight, every creature you sent is brought back up to at least its regeneration as a percentage of its maximum vitality. Your regeneration is shared out among them like the other stats.

  • 89.44 initial = 89.44

Your nose for a price, and how hard you are to overcharge.

Treasure from won fights, at one of the higher costs of the nine. Worn gear lends it.

It takes up to 25 percent off a dwelling, a weapon and your house rent. The discount climbs fast at first and then flattens, reaching half its maximum at 750 and never quite the whole 25. It is the one of the nine the fight engine never reads.

  • 246.27 initial = 246.27

How well you hold together while crossing land that is not yours.

Treasure from won fights, at one of the higher costs of the nine. Worn helms and shields lend it.

Stepping into another house's territory costs you vitality, and your energetic immunity cancels that percentage of the loss. At 100 the crossing costs nothing at all.

Skills that only grow

  • 36.50 initial = 36.50

The weight of your own will, built by going where the realm pushes back.

Every scene you enter that costs action points. Going in above the viscosity minimum pays more than going in below it. The secured day streak pays as well.

Your share of a forge wish. There are five bands, from a tenth to a half.

  • 12 initial = 12.00

Your grasp of the map, and of the shortest way across it.

Touching any of the 25 pillars. Each pillar pays a given traveller once, and never again.

The action points every move costs you. It comes off the cost, down to a floor of one.

  • 80 initial = 80.00

How far your character can still be reshaped. It starts at 80 for everyone and is only ever spent.

Nothing raises it yet. Every card you take by converting permanent stats lowers it by one.

The price of your next card. At 80 a card costs 10 points; each point of plasticity you lose makes the next card dearer (59, then 69, then 81 ...), and each point above 80 makes it cheaper, down to a floor of one.

Teaching the Principles of Magic Quest

As you can guess from the title I am looking for people to write up from a teaching
point of view the Principles of Magic.
This quest will be a long running quest as there are many principals. This quest will
also be done in 10 sections. Each quest will have 1 WP to be rewarded.

The outline of the quest is to write up a paper from a teacher’s point of view. To be
written as if you were going to be teaching a class of students the Principles.
You may take part in all papers or just one depending on how you may feel. You may talk
amongst yourself and help each other remember there are 10 WP’s
in total on the line so working as a group is also welcome.

I would like to see argument of how and why the principal may work. Remember that what
you put forward is all theory but the best or most logical one will win.
It would be good to see comparable examples or discussions for the principals. You may
write up each principal paper and have them linking to each other for
references if you wish. It would also be good to see references to other research of
the principals in the papers.

I will give 2 weeks to each principal (yes I said this will be a long running quest).
If I do not receive enough submitted works or the works that are submitted
are considered of too poor a quality then the WP’s will not be rewarded. Only 1
submission of work is acceptable per player. You may email the papers to
me @ yrthilian (at) Gmail (dot) Com or send an in game pm.
ALL emails or PM must contain the Quest name + Principal name.
Each paper needs to me at least 400 words but the more the better without repeating
yourself to much.

This quest is subject to change if I find any form of cheating.

NO ALTS allowed if this is found to have happened That player will be not be allowed to
take part in the other parts of the quest and will be marked as such.

So to start of the first paper it will be done on the Principle of Cyclicity
Started 25/08/2010 This part is finished as of today 08/09/2010

Second and third Principal to be submitted is Principle of Balance and Element Principle
This is 2 papers to be submitted as i will be away for the month.
Starting 08/09/2010 (NOTE: since i am away this give 1 month to submit the principal papers
This part is not finished

The forth Principal to be submitted is Principle of Entropy. Started 09/10/10 This quest will be open for 2 weeks. This part is finished

The Fifth Principal to be submitted is Principle of Imagination
Started 09/11/10 This quest will be open for 3 weeks.
(was extended by 1 week)

Fyrd Argentus asked me a question

There is a question in my mind after reading your quest whether you are asking for a
theoretical treatment of the principles, drawing from the larger universe, or
whether you are asking for an analytical treatment of how the principles are implemented
in the realm of MD (tokens and storyline etc.)

Answer
It can be from ether point of view both are valid. It would be nice to see both point
of view added. As that is part of teaching to be able to use real life
examples and In game mechanics or theories to show a point of how the principles may work

Sharazhad reminded me to use start date.
Z pointed out i had not included format for PM or email

From the Adventure Log

Page 585 · The Hunt for Red Presents

Aia, while initially surprised, welcomed the elf as befitting a Queen and offered them help with their predicament. The elf was upset and directly questioned whether Aia had come to further set his home alight.

After the initial grumpiness, Aia spent some time learning why the elf had not replied. The elf and their friends had went away to commiserate the loss of their friend Fyrd. This was why there was no replies, and someone with a tricky sense of humour decided to continue to pile the letters up in the office. They continued to discuss the letter situation and Aia admitted that on her request the letters were sent. While the elf refused to admit it, Aia got the distinct impression that the elf had not read them.

As the discussion continued, they migrated to the Defensive Tower Balcony where tea and biscuits were offered. Aia explained the concern about Confused Santa, his elf, and the presents and the archive elf mentioned that he would be able to help. However this was contingent on whether the problems with the archives could be solved since that was their first priority.

After the elf left, Aia realised that the elf did not realise she was the Queen, after them making several comments about the scary Queen. That shall be a surprise if the elf later realises! The elf has promised to send the Queen or Aia, whom is much less scary than the queen, a list of requests to help restore the archives.

This story involves real player characters and grows every few hours. Read the rest in the game: you could become part of it.
