Character

Combat stats tap a row for its sources

  • 3,024.10 initial = 3,024.10

The plain force your creatures strike with when you send them into a ritual.

Treasure from won fights, where it is the cheapest of the nine to raise. Worn weapons lend it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

Damage is your attack less the target's defence, and most abilities start their sum from it. Your total is shared out across the creatures in your ritual, so the same attack goes further in a ritual of two than in a ritual of six.

  • 2,207.61 initial = 2,207.61

How much of a blow your creatures shrug off before it touches their vitality.

Treasure from won fights, at three and a half times the cost of attack. Worn armour lends it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

It is subtracted from nearly every incoming blow, so a defence above the enemy's attack leaves them doing the minimum of one damage. Like the rest, your total is shared out across the creatures in your ritual.

  • 467.96 initial = 467.96

The strength behind everything your creatures do that is not a plain blow.

Treasure from won fights, the second cheapest of the nine to raise. Worn gear lends it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

Healing, protecting, stealing life, draining principles and poisoning all measure themselves against power and ignore attack entirely. Stealing life is capped at 20 percent of a creature, and an aimed hit at 25.

  • 359.10 initial = 359.10

How early your creatures move when a round opens.

Treasure from won fights, at five times the cost of attack. Worn gear lends it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

The whole field acts in order of initiative, highest first, so it decides whether you land a killing blow before the other side answers or after.

  • 470.31 initial = 470.31

How readily the realm's heat answers to you, in a fight and on the road.

Treasure from won fights, and one of the dearer of the nine. Worn gear lends it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

It is added to the heat you get for a fight you start, and a quarter of it is added to the heat of every step on your own land, or on any land while you belong to none.

  • 132.46 initial = 132.46

The realm's willingness to tilt a moment your way, or against you.

Treasure from won fights, but only on about one win in eight, so it grows in jumps rather than steadily. Clickables in the lands hand it out, and worn gear lends it.

On roughly one scene in three, luck finds you Winertia; luck below zero loses it instead. In a fight, luck on either side can double an effect or cancel it outright.

  • 443.76 initial = 443.76

How readily your vitality comes back to you.

Treasure from won fights, and by far the dearest of the nine to raise. Worn gear lends it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

It swells the vitality your house pays you on every refresh, by up to half again, with half of that reached at 2,000. After a fight, every creature you sent is brought back up to at least its regeneration as a percentage of its maximum vitality. Your regeneration is shared out among them like the other stats.

  • 300.51 initial = 300.51

Your nose for a price, and how hard you are to overcharge.

Treasure from won fights, at one of the higher costs of the nine. Worn gear lends it.

It takes up to 25 percent off a dwelling, a weapon and your house rent. The discount climbs fast at first and then flattens, reaching half its maximum at 750 and never quite the whole 25. It is the one of the nine the fight engine never reads.

  • 544.35 initial = 544.35

How well you hold together while crossing land that is not yours.

Treasure from won fights, at one of the higher costs of the nine. Worn helms and shields lend it.

Stepping into another house's territory costs you vitality, and your energetic immunity cancels that percentage of the loss. At 100 the crossing costs nothing at all.

Skills that only grow

  • 6.71 initial = 6.71

The weight of your own will, built by going where the realm pushes back.

Every scene you enter that costs action points. Going in above the viscosity minimum pays more than going in below it. The secured day streak pays as well.

Your share of a forge wish. There are five bands, from a tenth to a half.

  • 1 initial = 1.00

Your grasp of the map, and of the shortest way across it.

Touching any of the 25 pillars. Each pillar pays a given traveller once, and never again.

The action points every move costs you. It comes off the cost, down to a floor of one.

  • 80 initial = 80.00

How far your character can still be reshaped. It starts at 80 for everyone and is only ever spent.

Nothing raises it yet. Every card you take by converting permanent stats lowers it by one.

The price of your next card. At 80 a card costs 10 points; each point of plasticity you lose makes the next card dearer (59, then 69, then 81 ...), and each point above 80 makes it cheaper, down to a floor of one.

"We learn again and again how difficult it is to live with the wolf,
for to tame her is to break her power."

Approach the land of forest in malice at your peril, for my archers are strong.
In this land, I am everything and nothing - the grey that sits between.
The between of land and sea, the between of truth and lie, the between of fire and sky - moon and star.
Sit before me if you wish to know, or do not.
I hold secrets, and I do not.
Know me as huntress.
Know me as she who holds the scales.

Artwork Quest: Cyclicity
HAS ENDED!! JUDGING WILL BEGIN AS OF 1/2/2012!

1) Description:

Cycles move the realm. They turn the community in waves that continue crashing and returning, and crashing again. Everywhere you look, a cycle can be found. Kings come and go. Fellow players sleep and return awake. Leaders fall and rise. Rain falls in the realm, and then stops, and falls again. Alliances thrive in activity, then fall silent. These are the cycles that surround us as we move in the realm, and they are found everywhere.

I would like all participants who enter this contest to write a story about Cyclicity and then illustrate it.

***If you are not confident in your ability to draw or illustrate, team up with someone who is able to. If you have written a story, find someone who is able to illustrate it. If you have illustrated an artwork, and cannot do a story.. find someone who might be able to write something around the artwork you have presented .***

The Principal of Cyclicity (description of the principal) can be found on the Magic Duel log in page.

But for those who do not want to take a moment to look on the front page, here it is:

"Each event could either take part having a certain shape, having its own cycle, repeating itself after time, or could either be part of another superior event that has its own cycle. Events like daily routine, or the changing of the seasons, or the shifting of the planet Poles, or even the world itself are all cyclic events. Symbolic, all events occur on the shape of a circle, two opposites intertwining, just like a snake, biting its own tail. The cycles actually represent a Balance either between the consumption of energy and its (re)generation, either between different evolutionary steps. In the Principle Hierarchy, this Principle reigns over others, but is also inferior to some, making it very difficult to precisely reveal its importance. It exists in absolutely in every event that could have an opposite, for its role is that of creating and maintaining the Balance. Due to its repetitive nature, it can cover very long periods of time, or can even part from existence, due to the fact that the Principle can apply to that too, for even existence has an opposite, even if it is abstract and hard to understand. The Principle takes many shapes. For example, a simple thing like cutting a thing in equal halves, and then halving those, and so on to infinity, even if it doesn't look like it, applies to this Principle. Also, the perpetuation of a species, through never-ending cycles of deaths and births, or even in the evolution of science, that at one point causes its own downfall are cycles of the same Principle. In a battle, the Principle occurs when defense follows the attack, or when a series of attacks are released in order to weaken the adversary. Many forms of consumption or energy reloading can happen in only one cycle. But if one action(cycle) is modified in such a way in which it could cover more cycles, the result would be colossal in energy."

2) Rules:

There are no limits to how creative you can get with this contest, however there are some limits in regards to the story portion of the quest:

- Please do not write more than two pages, the limit is a half page to two pages. *This is set in place this way so that the judge(s) do not tear their hair out and murder me and so the writing portion is not tedious on contestants.

- Your story must be in story format. Meaning it has to have a character that is actually doing something in the story.
The only limit I will place on artwork is that you should send in illustrations that are complete. I will be judging based on creativity, skill, and how closely the illustration matches the story you submit.

***The artwork must be your own artwork. If I find anyone who steals artwork to get a reward, they will immediately be disqualified- no matter how good their story is.***

***You may only submit one entry, multiple entries are not allowed.***

Artwork submissions are to be placed in this QUEST FORUM THREAD using an upload link, or uploaded post attachments.

3) Judging:

There will be two sets of judges for this contest, and the judging will occur the week after the quest is over. (Aka. The week of New Years)

Artwork Submissions: Amoran K Kol, and Marvolo will judge these submissions.
Story Submissions: Tarquinus (and possibly one other judge) will judge these submissions.

***All submissions must be in this thread by December 22nd!***

4) Rewards:
  • 1st: Wish point.
  • 2nd: 5$ credit pack
  • 3rd: Enter Oak Tower stone
  • 4th: Two cups of Aromatic Tea or one sponsored creature.
Because I would like everyone in this contest to get at least SOMETHING for entering a submission, sponsored rewards are also welcome as well! :)

If you have any questions regarding this quest, please do not hesitate to ask.

5) Sponsorship, Donated Rewards:

Each year I hold this quest I make a point to ensure that each participant gets at least SOMETHING for their entry. Artwork is not a difficult thing to do, and the same can be said for writing. If effort is shown, you will get something- no matter how small the reward. The more effort put into the quest, the higher the reward is likely to be.
Thank you to those who choose to donate to the quest. If these rewards are not used, they will be returned to the person who donated after the quest is over.

***Please, when you send me a sponsored reward, message me as well so I can know who the reward came from.***

  • Esmaralda: 3 silver coins
  • Lashtal: Mirror Ritual stone
  • Marvolo: Weaken 5 stone
  • Jolla: Imperial Aramor, Sharptear

::REGARDING ART REQUESTS::

1. I am generous in that I will not always ask a customer to pay for the artwork I create.

2. Tell me the item description or the avatar description BEFORE I begin drawing,
or I will not draw it for you again.

3. For the love of all that is holy, do not change your mind half way through the damn drawing.

4. I will upload the avatar artwork or I will not allow you to use the artwork drawn.

5. Do not beg for more artwork or bother me if you have already commissioned an avatar-
or item from me if I have chosen to draw the artwork without charge.

6. Do not give me super detailed descriptions. Too much detail limits creativity.

(more to be added depending on annoyances along the way)

Upward and Reaching
(Theories about the Land of Lore)

I had not noticed such a phenomenon before, perhaps because you do not always analyze
a home. You merely live within it and enjoy it's gifts. However.. the structures in Loreroot seem
to face the sun. They gaze upward, much like the face at War Hold, and the Tower which reminds me of
an arrow directly pointing upward, and even the Totem, who's arms spread outward as though praying
hands held to the sky.

Even Wasp's Altar displays an arc made of vines holding a symbol that reminds me of the sun
..it glows faintly.

Tis merely something to think about. Merely a wee theory among many disagreeable ones.

Poems:

From Asterdai:
"For you, and Bob Entwined in the Weave."

The Great Spirit, The World Tree,
the vast forest of the life and the song woven in its roots are you and me,
there is a feeling here,
its where we belong wandering this forest,
trees tower above alone now,
i am keeping you near i may lose my way but never your love in my heart now,
i have nothing to fear we will always be together,
though you are gone in this vast forest of our life and our song.

From Tzaroth:
They don’t hear her screams…

What plagues her flesh, the memories of imagination
All those things she wished she would have done
She stares out into an empty room, with a smile
Full of the bitterness that slowly chews away at her heart

They don’t see her pain…

The shadows that cover her eyes are not to seduce
But reflect the specter of tears that haunt her night
As she seeks without herself a distraction to fit
The empty place where her soul once lived

~

The world she sees, that no one knows
The private world within, sanctuary of her heart
The cold reality that doesn’t care, doesn’t faze
The still tranquility of her internal home

With faces that distort with disgust
And vile words that drip poison
She wades through the cities of earth
Overcast jungles of steel, brick and concrete

Exasperation drips from a leaden sky
Pours down over the lethargic grey
Slightly sad eyes peer out to witness
Another drab and boring day

A small wistful smile lights her face,
The fire from inside her heart sparked
Once more inspired to dig in and bring out
The life that seethes within her mind

Page 330 · The Inner Sun - Noo.

The shadows swirl before No One. Their twisted shapes taking form, they manifest into something he recognizes: a small puppy. He begins to calm, reaching out to play with the puppy. The dog looks at No One strangely, but then wags its tail and barks happily. This is the first times No One finds solace in anything since entering this place. He is content to let it happen and hopes it lasts.
