Medals 9

Medals are earned through hard work and given one player at a time, sometimes with a ceremony. Together with titles, they are what the realm holds as true about Syrian.

Achievements 75

Achievements are deeds the realm measures by itself: days in the realm, fights won, creatures raised, things forged and found. These are the ones Syrian has reached.

Character

Combat stats tap a row for its sources

  • 1,303.50 initial = 1,303.50

The plain force your creatures strike with when you send them into a ritual.

Treasure from won fights, where it is the cheapest of the nine to raise. Worn weapons lend it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

Damage is your attack less the target's defence, and most abilities start their sum from it. Your total is shared out across the creatures in your ritual, so the same attack goes further in a ritual of two than in a ritual of six.

  • 786.43 initial = 786.43

How much of a blow your creatures shrug off before it touches their vitality.

Treasure from won fights, at three and a half times the cost of attack. Worn armour lends it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

It is subtracted from nearly every incoming blow, so a defence above the enemy's attack leaves them doing the minimum of one damage. Like the rest, your total is shared out across the creatures in your ritual.

  • 182.83 initial = 182.83

The strength behind everything your creatures do that is not a plain blow.

Treasure from won fights, the second cheapest of the nine to raise. Worn gear lends it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

Healing, protecting, stealing life and poisoning all measure themselves against power and ignore attack entirely. Stealing life is capped at 20 percent of a creature, and an aimed hit at 25.

  • 388.47 initial + 10 territory = 398.47

How early your creatures move when a round opens.

Treasure from won fights, at five times the cost of attack. Worn gear lends it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

The whole field acts in order of initiative, highest first, so it decides whether you land a killing blow before the other side answers or after.

  • 618.50 initial = 618.50

How readily the realm's heat answers to you, in a fight and on the road.

Treasure from won fights, and one of the dearer of the nine. Worn gear lends it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

It is added to the heat you get for a fight you start, and a quarter of it is added to the heat of every step on your own land, or on any land while you belong to none.

  • 119.27 initial + 20 territory = 139.27

The realm's willingness to tilt a moment your way, or against you.

Treasure from won fights, but only on about one win in eight, so it grows in jumps rather than steadily. Clickables in the lands hand it out, and worn gear lends it.

On roughly one scene in three, luck finds you Winertia; luck below zero loses it instead. In a fight, luck on either side can double an effect or cancel it outright.

  • 684.77 initial + 40 territory = 724.77

How readily your vitality comes back to you.

Treasure from won fights, and by far the dearest of the nine to raise. Worn gear lends it, and some shop and reward items grant it.

It swells the vitality your house pays you on every refresh, by up to half again, with half of that reached at 2,000. After a fight, every creature you sent is brought back up to at least its regeneration as a percentage of its maximum vitality. Your regeneration is shared out among them like the other stats.

  • 554.94 initial = 554.94

Your nose for a price, and how hard you are to overcharge.

Treasure from won fights, at one of the higher costs of the nine. Worn gear lends it.

It takes up to 25 percent off a dwelling, a weapon and your house rent. The discount climbs fast at first and then flattens, reaching half its maximum at 750 and never quite the whole 25. It is the one of the nine the fight engine never reads.

  • 921.98 initial + 80 territory = 1,001.98

How well you hold together while crossing land that is not yours.

Treasure from won fights, at one of the higher costs of the nine. Worn helms and shields lend it.

Stepping into another house's territory costs you vitality, and your energetic immunity cancels that percentage of the loss. At 100 the crossing costs nothing at all.

Skills that only grow

  • 1,365.86 initial = 1,365.86

The weight of your own will, built by going where the realm pushes back.

Every scene you enter that costs action points. Going in above the viscosity minimum pays more than going in below it. The secured day streak pays as well.

Your share of a forge wish. There are five bands, from a tenth to a half.

  • 30 initial = 30.00

Your grasp of the map, and of the shortest way across it.

Touching any of the 25 pillars. Each pillar pays a given traveller once, and never again.

The action points every move costs you. It comes off the cost, down to a floor of one.

  • 80 initial = 80.00

How far your character can still be reshaped. It starts at 80 for everyone and is only ever spent.

Nothing raises it yet. Every card you take by converting permanent stats lowers it by one.

The price of your next card. At 80 a card costs 10 points; each point of plasticity you lose makes the next card dearer (59, then 69, then 81 ...), and each point above 80 makes it cheaper, down to a floor of one.

Bug reports

  • 62 graded reports = 191

Your record as a bug reporter. Every bug report is read, checked and graded once.

A real bug earns 0 to 10, from a simple error to a serious fault that was truly solved. A report that was not a bug takes 0 to 10 away, the most for bad intent or an attempt to mislead.

Nothing yet. It is kept as your record.

Casual gamer

  • 2 won, 1 lost against players = 1

Your record at the small games played against other players: chess, checkers, battleships, stone tides, war towers, pot limit omaha and backgammon.

A game won is +1 for each opponent you beat, so +1 against one player and +3 at a table of four. A game lost is -1, whether it was lost by play, by resigning or by leaving the table. At a poker table the player who ends furthest ahead wins it. A draw moves nothing. It can go below zero.

Nothing. It is kept as your record.

The Child of the Mind
I once heard a tale of a man who split himself in two.
The one part never changed at all; the other grew and grew.
The changeless part was always true,
the growing part was always new,
and I wondered, when the tale was through,
which part was me, and which was you.— Orson S. Card
A Little About Me
My name is Syrian, though I had another name once, from a time that I remember all too well. I came here split, two personas that were both me, I couldn't even distinguish which one was me, and which one was not. After a while it became apparent, they are both me, and the child that I became was an escape from myself and a past that I couldn't bare to live with, I hid behind her like a shadow, dark and distant, hiding behind the persona my subconscious had given to me. A way to hide away from the pain and the anguish that I am burdened with.
But the pain is always there, the child that I hide behind, is only another representation of myself, I cannot hide from myself, but she gives me a way to ignore the dark and painful parts of myself, and to view the world in a way i had never experienced before, the joyous feeling to be a child, to be happy, free from the burdens of the world and to live without the repercussions of my past, to experience the world anew.
I can talk about her as a separate person, or maybe even just another side of the coin, and while this is true, we are the same, she lives because of me, and I couldn't live without her, we protect each other, she protects me from myself, and I protect her from the world. She runs and plays and has all the fun in the world, and I get to watch and experience these things for myself, but sometimes, sometimes things become too much, my emotions become too powerful, and they begin to leak, and the coin begins to turn...
The Memories Long Forgotten
I was once the Queen of the grandest Elven city known to this earth, a kingdom so magnificent it was said to be the palace of the gods, the one true shining star in a world full of hate and greed. Once, many lifetimes ago, but to better understand my story, one must start with another, yet equally tragic story, that of my two sons. The first, Illius, and the second, Ithlirian. Ithlirian was the most naturally gifted of countless generations, he had a natural affinity for magic that had never been seen before, able to learn magic without practice just from watching it. Illius, the eldest, was not so talented. shadowed by the talent of his younger brother, he became obsessed with bettering him, spending every waking moment alone with his books. I watched him, slipping further away from the world, deep inside himself, consumed by jealousy, hatred and pride, fuelling his inner fire of self destruction.
The day came that I finally saw Illius outside of his chambers, his face cut deep into my soul. the washed out face, the cold dead eyes staring into mine, and a soul so black and empty it broke my heart. He walked past me without a second glance, I held myself strong for as long as I heard his footsteps on the marble, the footsteps stopped. the silence struck me me like a blade to the heart, the emptiness consumed me, I fell to my knees and wept, I wept until my eyes were dry, and still i continued. I knew from that moment my son was lost, and I, I had done nothing.
For days I remained in my room, neglecting myself and refusing food. I screamed away visitors until my throat was dry. The last was Ithlirian, I couldn't bare to have him see me this way, I summoned up what magic I had left and I cast him from my room. Exhausted I collapsed on my bed, a single tear rolling down my cheek. Every emotion was gone from me, I was nothing, a wraith, a prisoner of my own mind, broken and irreparable. On the fifth day of solitude I heard terrified screams coming from the courtyard. I picked myself up from my bed and peered out of the window. Nothing could have prepared me for the sight that followed, my two sons, standing together. Illius with that same dead stare. but the other, he bounced around with glee and pride. Blood stained every part of him, his left hand blackened from using forbidden magic. In his right, a severed baby dragon head on a spear, blood still dripping from its neck. It left a trail as he walked proudly towards the palace. I panicked, dragons are primal creatures, extremely vengeful and quick to anger. I struggled to breath, my mind trying furiously to maintain a cohesive sentence "why..he...no...he wouldn't...not ..." the realisation sent my head spinning. Illius, consumed by hate, convinced Ithlirian to slay this poor creature and bring its head home as a trophy. In the distance the the cries of its mother could be heard. A roar mixed with anger and sadness. a woeful cry for its lost baby. Ithlirian. realising his brothers trickery, dropped the head in fear, and using his blackened hand sent Illius crashing against the nearest wall, knocking him out as his limp body fell to the floor. Ithlirian screamed as he ran inside the palace, screaming my name over and over in panic. screams that will forever haunt me to this day.
In moments my doors are burst open and Ithlirian runs through them, he holds out his arms as he runs for me, tears streaming down his face. He grabs me, his weight forcing me to the ground, I wrap my arms around him in an attempt to make him feel safe. I hold him there, blankly staring at the wall in front of me, my child crying against my chest, I feel nothing, No sorrow. No pity. No fear. I am truly...empty. Ithlirian hugs me tighter, he feels safe now, in his own world, but in the real world, we are not safe, the dragon is coming.

PART II
The wall separating us from the world suddenly disintegrated under the searing plasma of dragon fire. As the smoke cleared my gaze was drawn to one enormous, reptilian eye where the wall used to be. It spoke without words. GIVE ME THE CHILD KILLER. I shuddered under the pressure of that voice in my head, still clutching my son to me."But it wasn't his fault!" I screamed. "Someone tricked him!" The Dragon blinked its giant eye once, lazily. THEN WHO? I hesitated. Could I really save one son at the cost of the other? Then I remembered Illius' face earlier, and looked down at Ithlirian clutched to my chest, trembling at the sight of the mother of the child he had slain.
I had to do something... The Dragon's head withdrew from the window and I looked over at Illius staggering to his feet. He glared at Ithlirian with a look of intense hatred, barely even noticing the Dragon. That's when I made up my mind."It was him!" I shouted and leapt to my feet, pointing at Illius and hating myself for it. He looked up at me in shock and betrayal while Ithlirian looked up at me in a daze from the ground where he lay. The Dragon turned to regard Illius, who glared back. "I knew you always loved Ithlirian more!" He screamed. "Fine then! Take me! I don't care!" The Dragon opened its mouth, and then paused, sniffing the air. With an air of calculated menace it turned back towards me. I SMELL HIS BLOOD ON THIS ONE.
I froze, trying to find words. My head was full of Illius' voice and my betrayal. Suddenly the Dragon opened its mouth and snatched up Ithlirian. He screamed, once, before the Dragon bit him in half. Blood rained down over the courtyard and Ilius. I stared in shock. The sorrow hadn't set in yet, all I felt was emptiness. More Dragons arrived, and they proceeded to raze my Kingdom to the ground, piece by piece. Ilius and I watched in silence as the Kingdom said to be the very Palace of the Gods was turned into naught but ash and charred rubble.
PART III
One month has passed since that fateful day. Illius and I live together in the woods. Our former people want nothing to do with us and attack us on sight for the crime of destroying our Kingdom. Illius and I do not talk. I can tell he's broken, from the loss of his life purpose in besting his brother, and from my betrayal. He does little else besides stare at me with his accusing eyes. Those eyes... they are all I see, along with Ithlirians confused face as the Dragon bit him in two. They haunt my dreams. I try not to sleep but sometimes the exhaustion becomes too much. I wake up screaming.
But I have the answer... it came to me on my fifth day awake. Ithlirian appeared to me in a pond and gave it to me while I was gathering water. Illius' eyes, those are the problem. If he wasn't always staring at me, a constant reminder of what has happened, perhaps I could forget. He's asleep now. I go get the knife I keep for self defense and walk quietly into his room. It takes a while and he struggles at first, but eventually the task is completed. His breathing slows... stops. I run into the woods carrying the accursed objects and cast them into the deepest pit I know of. Now, perhaps, I can rest...
At the door of the cabin I'm met by a strange creature who looks like a living shadow. In one hand he is holding a cube, and the other he extends to me. I take the hand...I feel my mind being split, and when I awake I'm not just me anymore...
